Sample Senkos Win TABC State Championship

Russ, thanks to you and Gary Yamamoto Custom Baits for sponsoring the Texas Association of Bass Clubs ("TABC") State Championship. I thought you might be interested in the following true story...

Lake Amistad, Texas - My partner and I were fishing the Texas Association of Bass Clubs State Championship at Lake Amistad two weeks ago. We were catching fish on a variety of plastics, but the lake slicked off, got real calm and the bite really slowed down. I pulled out the sample pack of Yamamoto Senkos that we had been given, and I thought that I'd give the fish a different look with the smoke root beer with green and copper flakes (color 236) Senko. Within ten minutes, I had two more weighers in the livewell.

At the end of the first day of competition, our club was in second place by a narrow margin. Day two was a shorter fishing day, and we had to try and come up with limits of weigh-fish on a lake that had already been pounded by over a hundred teams. The weather conditions had changed some, and we adjusted our game plan. At ten minutes to twelve, we had four weighers in the livewell. The wind was really rocking, and we were over 20 miles from the 1:00 check-in. The other boats in our club, as well as virtually all of the other boats on the lake, had already headed in to allow ample time to get back in the rough water.

My partner and I decided to go for broke and fish just a little longer. I decided to try one last spot on Lake Amistad where I had some bites in practice. I had used up all of my sample pack of Senkos and most of my partner's.... only two Senkos left. We had no way of knowing at that time that our club was only a pound out of first place. I pitched in a Senko and was rewarded with a solid weigher, our fifth of the day. We battened the hatches and put the hammer down for the long ride back in rough water. Luckily, we arrived in time. That last Senko fish was what put us over the top to win the 2003 Texas Association of Bass Clubs Championship for our club!

That last Senko fish was enough to put us over the top to win the 2003 TABC Championship for our club!
