Yamamoto Releases Crawfish MegaStrike
Story by Russ Bassdozer
July, 2004
Gary
Yamamoto Custom Baits was so impressed with the results of the original
MegaStrike that the company has now worked with MegaStrike to formulate an amino
acid based fish attractant with a crawfish additive exclusively for Gary
Yamamoto Custom Baits.
Gary Yamamoto has developed hooks that work best
with his baits, made exclusively for him by Gamakatsu. So it is only natural
that we would develop an attractant that works best with our baits, made
exclusively for us by MegaStrike, says Yamamoto company spokesperson, Russ
Bassdozer.
As far as I know, MegaStrike is the one on the
leading edge of applying amino acids and proteins to entice fish into holding
on, says Bassdozer. Based on MegaStrike's innovation in this area, expect to see
a spate of new products that may look like, may sound like but aren't
MegaStrike.
One secret to Megastrike is the use of amino
acids. Bass need to consume amino acids. They are used for the production of
skin cells, blood cells, their digestive system, for replenishing their
protective slime coatings and for producing body mass and muscle. Bass cannot
produce certain amino acids on their own just like we cannot produce vitamin C.
We have to obtain it from fruits, vegetables or we take a vitamin C tablet.
MegaStrike has isolated the amino acids and put them into a gel that does not
wash off. It adheres to the baits and stays put on the baits for at least 45
minutes or longer based on the cover and water conditions. Since the amino acids
are water-soluble they work in conjunction with the chemoreceptors and olfactory
glands of the fish. When inhaled by the fish it registers as real food and the
fish retain the baits allowing a longer strike detection time and more fish in
the livewell.
Another trade secret that differentiates
MegaStrike is that the company has developed a way to get the molecules to repel
each other, thus dispersing the scent throughout the strike zone. Unlike other
attractants with molecules that may coagulate together and therefore never
really disperse throughout the water column, MegaStrike's molecules keep pushing
apart from each other - indefinitely.
Not only does the exclusive Yamamoto attractant
formula have the amino acids and proteins, the diametrically opposed molecules,
but Yamamoto also deploys crayfish additive to really entice the fish into
striking the baits. After six months of working with MegaStrike's chemist, the
Yamamoto formula was deemed a success and ready for market.
Now, we feel that there has never been such a
fish catching combo as Yamamoto soft lures and the new crawfish MegaStrike
developed with and exclusively for Yamamoto. Legendary fisherman Roland Martin calls them the “dynamic duo”. We
believe the combination of Yamamoto baits and the Yamamoto formula of MegaStrike
will be one of the fastest growing strategic partnerships to ever hit the
fishing industry or the water.
Let's face it, we all know the Yamamoto name
would never go on this product if it didn’t work.
Says Bassdozer, "Even if Yamamoto's
exclusive new MegaStrike attractant doesn't win a medal in new product
competition at the ICAST show later this month, it will prove its mettle as a
winner in the ultimate competition between man and fish."
MegaStrike a New Paradigm for Fish Attractant Usage
"MegaStrike is a whole new paradigm for using fish
attractant," says Russ Bassdozer. The fact it is a viscous gel helps make
it possible. Even if MegaStrike liquefies in the tube on a hot day, it tends to
flash freeze to gel when it hits the water, thus coating the entire bait like a
chocolate-dipped ice cream bar.
I even apply MegaStrike to my hands, just rubbing a small bead of it between
my palms. I have not ever though it possible, practical or pleasant to do this
with any other attractants, only MegaStrike. Once I got accustomed to the
unusualness of this, I don't have any problem handling a rod or reel. At the end
of the day, MegaStrike washes off hands and everything else with hot soapy
water. Stains even wash off a bass boat carpet with soapy hot water, unlike some
other attractant brands that don't easily wash off or are reported by some
anglers to react unfavorably, damaging their boat carpet or gel coat.
Like many anglers, I use MegaStrike on soft lures, but what I mean by a new
paradigm for attractant usage is that I don't stop there. I apply MegaStrike to
the hook, sinker, swivel, rigging bead and rub it up the line or leader. I've
found a little MegaStrike is good, but a lot is better.
I keep my soft lures in their original plastic bags. Before any bag of soft
lures goes into my tackle box, a squeeze of MegaStrike goes into each bag first.
Not only does this marinate the baits in attractant, it adds a glistening sheen
and helps take some of the kinks out of bent baits. MegaStrike is like a shine,
relaxer and reconditioner for soft lures, and a marinade.
Most guys won't take the time to do this, and while you're out fishing, you
get too busy to do it then. So squeeze some MegaStrike into your bags of soft
lures before they go into your tackle box. You'll be glad you did.
Put MegaStrike on hard baits? You bet! Since they're hard, not squishy
and salty like soft plastics, it's even more important to me that I rub my
hard-bodied baits in MegaStrike. Wood or hard plastic crankbaits, jerkbaits,
topwater and lipless rattling baits all get rubbed down in MegaStrike.
Spinnerbaits and Buzzbaits? You bet. The wire arms, blades, heads and
hooks all get the treatment.
Whatever is on the end of my line will have MegaStrike on it. I would not
take the time away from fishing in order to do this unless I believe it matters.
Trust me, I believe in just one thing - results. MegaStrike gets them for me and
for anyone who fishes with me. I have never yet finished a tube of MegaStrike
because whoever fishes with me insists on taking my tube of MegaStrike home with
them.
"Big bass don't come along every cast, but when they do, I'll have
MegaStrike on mine," says Russ Bassdozer. You should too.
