Chief George Braswell Honored
August 24, 2009
The 2009 Legends of the Outdoors Hall of Fame honored long-time Yamamoto employee, Chief George Braswell, as the American Outdoorsman of the Year. Legends founder and president, Garry Mason, says, “Chief George Braswell has traveled all over the country promoting fishing and the great outdoors. He not only promotes fishing but he is a veteran, wonderful person and a deserving individual to be receiving the American
Outdoorsman of the year award. It was a privilege and thrill for me to present this award that is different than a legends award because it recognizes someone who works hard everyday in the trenches, seldom gets national recognition, but makes an impact in some important way to the outdoor community.”
Chief Braswell says, “This award was such a surprise and I’m still without words what this award means to me. To be recognized by the Legends Hall of Fame for getting to do what I do every day is something. I love to teach fishing and encourage wise use of the outdoors. The award caught me by surprise.”
“I would like to say two things about the Hall of Fame banquet that impressed and touched me,” continues Chief Braswell. “One thing was listening to the legends who were being inducted acknowledging those who made it possible for them to do what they do and reach the goals they have reached. The other was the support the program gave to our veterans. The Legends of the Outdoors is a wonderful organization.”
