Relying on soft plastic baits he designs and manufactures himself, Yamamoto pitched Texas-rigged Senkos up tight to boat docks inside creeks, and he also hit bass buried deep inside dense grass beds in shallow water. Productive Senko colors included 912 and 214. Yamamoto also dropshot deeper water structure and sand bars outside the mouths of creeks, relying on the new multiple modulus Dropshot Spinning Rod of his own design and his series of Cut Tail Worms. Once we got off the water, fishing was almost secondary importance. It was like, "Oh yeah, we go fishing tomorrow too," says John Murray. "I know everyone felt honored, even overwhelmed by the recognition and superstar status given to us by all the bass fans in Birmingham, the Alabama State BASS Federation members who worked support for the Classic, and by ESPN. Now I understand why every anglers on the BASS Pro Tour is obsessed and works so hard just to get here!" The old hook in the casting thumb didn't add much either. But Ron vows that: I'LL BE BACK by Ron Colby http://www.insideline.net/articles/classic-colby.html Indeed, Ron is already tracing his steps back to the Classic in 2003 by winning the BASS Federation Western Divisional for the second year in a row. Held in May on the California Delta, it gets Ron back to the Federation Nationals again, the traditional route for Federation anglers to qualify for the 2003 Classic. __________________________________________________
