The latest government figures estimate there are over 11 million "bass anglers" or people in the United States who target bass on their fishing trips. There are more bass anglers than any other species-specific freshwater fishing group (trout anglers, walleye anglers, catfishermen, etc.). __________________________________________________ BERNIE SCHULTZ JOINS YAMAMOTO'S NATIONAL TEAM Congratulations, Bernie Schultz! One of Florida's most accomplished fresh and saltwater anglers, Bernie Schultz has joined Yamamoto's National Team, the company's top pro tier which includes Gary Yamamoto himself, Gary Dobyns, Lendell Martin Jr., Roland Martin, Ben Matsubu, John Murray, Takahiro Omori, and Judy Wong. Schultz will represent Yamamoto on both of the national pro tour trails - B.A.S.S. and FLW - our sport's highest levels of competition. Schultz says, "To be successful on the bass tour, knowing how to fish soft plastics is essential. Having the right soft plastics make the job that much easier. Gary's soft plastics are among the finest available. That's why I choose GYCB -- they're that good! I'm extremely proud to represent them." "In particular, the Senko is the hottest new lure since the tube bait in the early seventies! It was a major winning force on both B.A.S.S. and FLW tours last season and this year won't be any different. My boat will be full of them, count on it," says Bernie. Bernie resides in Gainesville, Florida, with his wife, Kim and two young sons, Daniel and Trevor. "I'm from Florida where soft plastics are considered essential tools for consistency. And I rely on Gary Yamamoto Custom Baits, both at home and when I'm on the tour. They simply catch fish -- incredibly, even behind other soft plastics," says Schultz. Bernie's career achievements include two Canadian and two U.S. titles. He has qualified for six BASS Masters Classics and five FLW Championships, seven top-ten finishes on FLW, nine top-ten finishes on BASS. With career winnings exceeding $700,000, Bernie finished 8th overall on the 2002 FLW Tour and 52nd on the 2002 Bassmaster Tour. Bernie also participates in light-tackle saltwater tournaments around Florida, including many charitable events like the RedBone Series for Cystic Fibrosis. When not on the water, Bernie produces art related to angling, and his illustrations appear regularly in various fishing books and magazines such as Bassmaster and BASS Times. He is a columnist for Florida Sportsman magazine. As a conservationist concerned with the preservation of Florida's fisheries, Bernie has donated much time and original artwork to the Coastal Conservation Association. Bernie enjoys collecting antique tackle as a hobby.
