| __________________________________________________ May 6, 2003 - Vol. 4 No. 18 __________________________________________________ EDITOR'S LOG There's a place on this planet that holds the reins to over 20 of the 25 largest bass on record. It's California. There are many fabled waters there, but none as exciting and sprawling as a place the California bassmen call the Delta. Alton Forthe, a principal of Angler's Choice Tournament Trails (Brentwood, CA) ton-dropped the attached photo of his 13.15 caught a few days ago on the Delta on a wacky-rigged 9-10-051 Senko. The "big" are up on the shoreline there right now, after a delayed spring run due to weather. Well, I've been jealous of all the unabashed ton-dropping coming from the California Delta lately. I snapped at Alton, "You can have all the 13 pounders you want. I don't begin chasing them until they're 14 lbs!" "Then you better get out here," was his recommendation "because I saw your 14, a dark shadow lurking big as a nuclear sub in the tall tulles yesterday. I threw my wacky Senko on her but she wrinkled her fins at it. No doubt she's waiting on you, dude." And so I am on my way, a 1,000 mile 15-hour jaunt from the Arizona desert to the fabled California Delta, to meet my dream bass on the next tide. "The Bassdozer (Russ) is on his way out here to fish with us this week on the Delta," says Alton Forth of Angler's Choice. "We can't wait to show him how to fish! He could not stand it any more, us catching the 13's, 9's, 8's, and rats of 4 and 3 lbs." So Russ is on his way, and here is the contest: Guess the weight of Russ's biggest bass this Delta trip and win a $100.00 gift certificate at ACproshop.com. To enter, post your guess on Yamamoto's BassTalk forum. In the message subject line, put the exact weight of the biggest bass you guess Russ will catch. (If your guess is not in the subject line it will not count.) All weights must be posted in decimals - example 11.23 lbs. The closest to the exact weight wins. In case of a tie all ties win! The cut-off for this contest is 6:00pm PST 5/5/2003. Okay! It's really that simple. Let's play! Go to the URL below, post your guess, and join the fun! When the fishing is tough, especially when windy, and the lightest of line pressure is the solo sensation that a fish has come calling, a steady sweep of the rod tip, or simply raising the rod to the ten o'clock position is all that's necessary to securely lip-hook a bass to the end of your line.
