Let's meet at the: YAMAMOTO OPEN ON THE HUDSON JUNE 22ND http://www.acopens.com/hudson_river.html __________________________________________________ THANKS TO MY FATHER, HAPPY FATHERS DAY! Hi, Ron Colby here. Well Bassdozer is gone to the Yamamoto Open on the Hudson, so I'm in charge, Katie bar the doors. You almost always remember your first everything, first car, first kiss, first date, first job, but not necessarily in that order. I am sitting here trying to remember the first time I went fishing with my father, but it has eluded me. I am sure he can remember and is smiling (maybe not) as he is reading this with everyone else. Mom has told me stories about it and how I threw a fit because I couldn't climb down to the river and follow dad. He loved to fish Big Cottonwood Canyon and the small creek that flowed through it. I eventually got my way and I'm sure I didn't catch any fish and dad probably didn't either. He probably spent most of his time worrying about me falling in or throwing rocks spooking the fish. The main thing to me was that I was in his presence. That was all that mattered at the time. I do remember the first time I took my own son fishing, just the two of us. It was a trip to Lake Powell to practice for an upcoming tournament. As I was packing, he was acting the same way I probably did some 30+ years earlier. I gave in and said yes. My wife and I went and purchased a small life jacket and explained to him that he had to wear it at all times when he was in the boat. We also spent money on a Snoopy poll and of course a tackle box complete with just HIS tackle. Man was he spoiled, I never got anything like that when I was his age J. Off we went and it was great. He never complained once. He would fish for a little bit, then tell me he needed a snack, then take a little nap and then back to fishing, asking if I had caught anything while he was asleep. We managed to catch a few small fish that day. He wanted to keep them to show Mom and tell her that HE had caught some fish. I talked him into letting them go but we took pictures to show her. I can still hear him "Tell Mom I caught the big ones, OK dad?" as he let them go, a true fisherman. "You bet I will" I said. This Fathers Day is special for me because my wife and three children are coming to visit. You see I'm living here at Yamamoto Central and they are back in Salt Lake City until other matters are completed. But it is also a sad time as I will not be able to spend any time with my father who is also living in Salt Lake City. I called him the other day to chat and he told me he wanted to go fishing but his boat had moved, and we both laughed. I get the hint dad! I promise that the next time I am up there I will have the boat attached and we will go fishing! This brings me to my finial point and then I will end this rambling. We don't need some greeting card company telling us that we need to have a special day for our loved ones. Make every day special! Take your father or son fishing to remember the days that have gone by or to pass on the traditions to the future! Have a wonderful weekend dad, and may the big fish bite your bait! Ron PS.
