I'm glad to see week-by-week we've almost made it again to the end of another season. This week, I've dusted off, polished up and republished two old favorites for you: YAMAMOTO PRODUCT LINE PRESENTATION ~ by Russ Bassdozer http://www.insideline.net/articles/product-line.htm A GUIDE TO MODERN RIGS AND RIGGING ~ by Russ Bassdozer http://www.insideline.net/articles/rigging-guide.html Redoing these two articles reminded me of getting the holiday ornaments from storage, shining them up and enjoying them yet again. I hope you too enjoy the rewrites of these classic articles. Thank you so much for reading along in 2003. Your reading means a lot to me, and I hope it helps you increase your knowledge, enjoyment and success at bass fishing. Regards, Russ Bassdozer __________________________________________________ GYCB NEWS FROM EUROPE This just in from Joan Arnal, GYCB's European associate: "How difficult is it fish with the Senko? How long does it take before one can have fun with soft plastics?" In the warm and inviting waters of Spain, Gary Yamamoto Custom Baits organized a "Bass Class" on December 7 for a group of young bassmasters. About 70 kids between 10-15 years old and their families, came to the event to enjoy a great day on the waters of Valencia, hoping to answer that question. The conditions were nothing less than brutal. Clear waters, a severe cold front and blue bird skies made the Team Yamamoto Pros in Spain, serving as mentors for the kids, fear that it would be a difficult job to catch a single bass. The event started with some "how to rig" classes and a few lessons of "how set the hook", and then like a winter avalanche, the young fishermen rolled down the slope en masse to put into practice what they just learned in the numerous ponds of the area. Being kids, they did not know severe cold front conditions are "supposed" to be a bummer. The fun began! They started catching bass! The two best lures for the kids at the event were: 1) 92-series Ika in color 297 (dark green pumpkin pepper) 2) 92B Big Ika in chartreuse (color 156) Using light tackle spinning equipment, the kids found the fish in the grassbeds bordering the deepest shorelines, which were around 6 feet of water. And as the young Pros were quick to learn - they had most of the strikes occur just a few seconds after the initial fall, as their Ikas came to rest on the bottom. The day ended celebrating the fine fishing in a local restaurant with some dishes of rice and Spanish "Paella". It was a great memory for the kids, their families and for the Team Yamamoto Pros of Spain. Gary Yamamoto Custom Baits is proud to sponsor the next generation of European bass anglers. Joan Arnal, GYCB SPAIN __________________________________________________ CANADIAN CHRISTMAS ORNAMENTS FOR BASS ANGLERS TREES Well, we're always struggling with what to put UNDER the tree for a bass angler. Now here's something to put ON the tree! Canadian tournament bass angler Garrett Green of Northern Exposure Pewter has created a Christmas ornament for bass anglers. Garrett explained, "We realized there weren't a whole lot of Christmas ornaments designed with the avid bass angler and their families in mind. As someone who loves bass fishing, I got excited about creating these ornaments for anglers and their loved ones will enjoy them during the upcoming holidays." The pewter ornament features a largemouth bass on one side and a smallmouth on the reverse. Garrett and his business partner Dave Rochette, founding members of the Muskoka Bassmasters, have graciously offered to use the sale of these ornaments as a fundraiser for the Canadian Team that will be traveling south of the border (to the USA, not Mexico) in September 2004. The 12 person Canadian BASS Federation team includes 11 of the best bass anglers from Ontario and one from Nova Scotia. The team will be traveling to South Dakota to compete against US State Federation teams in the BASS Northern Divisional Championships in September 2004.
